GISC/POEC 6386 Urban and Environmental Applications of GIS/Remote Sensing. The application of Remote Sensing and/or Geographic Information Systems techniques to solving real-world urban and environmental problems. Applications may include analyses of urban and suburban landscape, land use and land cover, transportation and communication, vegetation and forestry, biodiversity and ecology, water and water quality control, soils and minerals, geology and geomorphology, etc. Prerequisites: GISC 6381 or GEOS 5405, or equivalent with instructor's permission. (3-0) R POEC 6386 Urban and Environmental Applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Applications (3 semester hours) Application of GIS to urban and environmental problems, with emphasis on public sector issues. Urban applications include urban planning, emergency response, facility siting, crime analysis, real estate analysis, infrastructure maintenance, land-use modeling, and policy analysis. Environmental applications include resource management, environmental impact assessment, environmental sensitivity analysis, environmental planning, water quality, stormwater runoff, and air quality modeling. Prerequisites: POEC 6381 and POEC 6382. (3-0) T
